This is a sad day. Father Al Kimel has announced that Pontifications has closed. What’s worse is that the archived posts of the old Pontifications seem to have been lost forever (although there may be a way to find at least some of them archived somewhere; see here). I’m not happy about this, but I certainly understand where Father is coming from. I would like to thank Father Kimel for his many inspiring and informative posts over the years!

A Prayer for Unity
O Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, thou didst promise to abide with us always. Thou dost call all Christians to draw near and partake of Thy Body and Blood. But our sin has divided us and we have no power to partake of Thy Holy Eucharist together. We confess this our sin and we pray Thee, forgive us and help us to serve the ways of reconciliation, according to Thy Will. Kindle our hearts with the fire of the Holy Spirit. Give us the spirit of Wisdom and faith, of daring and of patience, of humility and firmness, of love and of repentance, through the prayers of the most blessed Mother of God and of all the saints. Amen. – Fr Sergius Bulgakov-

waaaaaah!!!!!
Oh Fr. Al, if only you knew how much of my employer’s time I spent reading your blog…I daresay it’s the only thing that got me through a stressful day sometimes. I still can’t believe the IT department didn’t block it!!
Good night, and good luck! It was a great ride.
I think we should all add Fr. Kimmel to our daily prayer list.
He sounds unhappy.
If I were to say he sounds depressed, people would accuse me of psychologizing…but..he sounds depressed.
This is not to minimize the real reasons he might have for grief and sorrow.
In the face of how he is feeling, our focus should not be that we are deprived of Pontifications, but that our friend is suffering.
So please, let us pray for him.

Quite right. We should pray for Father Kimel, as we should for all of our priests who give their lives to serve us.
Susan, I had exactly the same impression. Yes, prayers forthcoming!

Maybe it’s the Dark Night of the Soul?
Rather than being a negative event, the dark night is believed by mystics and others to be a blessing in disguise where the individual extends from a state of contemplative prayer to an inability to pray. Particularly in Christianity, it is seen as a severe test of one’s faith. The Dark Night comes in two phases: a first “Night of the Senses,” and a second “Night of the Spirit.”
Yes, we most certainly should be praying for Fr. Kimel.
However, I do have some good news. If you would like to see archived versions of the old Pontifications, you can do so by visiting this link…

Gaudent Angeli! Thanks for finding this out. It looks like the link doesn’t work in the comment, for whatever reason; so folks should copy the text of the URL and paste it into their browser.
I have placed your blog on my blogroll. See http://jandyongenesis.blogspot.com
Keep posting, my friend, and may our gracious Lord Jesus Christ bless you!
It was great in the early days – a fascinating, and daring, public insight into the process of a conversion in progress … Fr. Alvin, there is little doubt that you are a great asset to Holy Church, and I still remember you daily in my prayers for you ministry, your inspiration, and that you share your humanity with all you meet. May Our Lord bless you and yours always.
